Our yearly Kromhout Lecture is named after architect Willem Kromhout, one of the founders of the Academy in 1908. Every year the lecture is delivered to our alumni, by one of our alumni. This year, the lecture titled Materialising the Invisible will be held by Lesia Topolnyk on Saturday 4 November at 16:30 in the Hoge Zaal at the Academy of Architecture. This lecture will be held in English. 

Seats are free and on a first-come, first-served basis - no advance registration is needed.

Lesia Topolnyk (Dutch-Ukrainian) was born in Ukraine and educated as an architect in different countries. She graduated from the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture in 2018 with project Un-United Nations Headquarters on the Annexed Crimean peninsula. For this work Lesia received the Archiprix National and International in 2019.  In 2022 she won the Prix de Rome with the project No Innocent Landscape about a mining village In The Eastern Ukraine.

Lesia established StudioSpaceStation to address pressing societal and environmental issues. Her work lies at the intersection of architecture, politics, and art. During her lecture, Lesia will use her projects as examples to discuss architecture's role in dissecting the components of our physical reality. She will explore how architecture can serve as a tool for control or as a means to address, uncover, and reimagine the implications of emerging environmental, political, and technological developments.
