The precursor of ‘green architecture’, Emilio Ambasz, will kick off a new 1·Lectures series of six lectures in September, October and November 2019. Ambasz is a multiple award-winning architect and industrial designer, born in Argentina in 1943.

Ambasz's trademark style is a combination of buildings and gardens, which he describes as 'green over grey'. He bucked the trends of the 1970s, hiding his buildings under grass or putting them on boats. This innovative device to create an architecture, that some have called “green architecture,” is the reason why his pioneering designs have been so influential.

“My buildings are, for me, evidence that the prevailing notion:  "the cities are for the buildings and the outskirts are for the parks; " is a mistaken and narrow-minded idea.” 

Among his architectural projects are the Prefectural International Hall in Fukuoka Japan (1990), the Banca Degli Occhi in Venice Italy (2009) and Cordoba House in Spain (1975).
