Vinay Venkatraman, founder and CEO of Leapcraft, will showcase how good design, data science and sensor technologies can transform the way we build and operate our cities during his 1·Lectures on 9 May 2019 at the Academy of Architecture.

His talk will cover how data transforms the human aspects of smart cities – bringing transparency, action and feedback into citizen engagement. In addition the rise of low cost sensor solutions are also transforming the way such data is available applied to variety of use cases including urban planning, traffic optimisations, health risk management etc. This changes the way designers, architects and urban planners will create in the future and this paradigm needs a range of new tools and systems to work with i.e data as a raw material.

About Vinay Venkatraman
Vinay Venkatraman is the founder and CEO of Leapcraft (www.leapcraft.dk) – an IoT (Internet of things) company based in Denmark focused on smart city and building applications. Prior to this Vinay co-founded CIID (Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design) in 2006.  Vinay helps shape the strategy and content for numerous initiatives through consulting, teaching and research lead initiatives.  He is trained as a product & interaction designer in India and Italy. His cross disciplinary approach to design has in the past have spanned design of connected consumer products, software and new business models.

Product Strategy
He currently spends his time on creating a scalable business model focused on sustainability and global emission reduction as part of the products being created at Leapcraft. In the past he has been deeply involved in education curriculums, shaping policy initiatives for the Danish government and consulting large global companies on innovation around new product experiences and design strategy. He has helped shape product strategy for companies like Nokia, Intel, Novo Nordisk, Maersk line, Lufthansa Technik, Philips lighting etc.  His passion lies in incubating new technology ideas,  finding new models of sustainable socio-economic development using appropriate technologies.

Vinay’s work has been widely recognised with numerous national and international awards, written about in leading design magazines like Wallpaper, Wired, Wall street journal etc and various popular blogs.  Vinay routinely travels and lectures world wide in platforms like TED on innovation and design for social change.

About the 1·Lectures
Since 2014, the Academy of Architecture has been organising the 1·Lectures in collaboration with the Amsterdam Architecture Centre. This series of architectural lectures provides a platform for speakers from home and abroad to talk about a variety of topics from the international world of architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture.
