Famous Japanese architect Kengo Kuma is coming to the Netherlands on 17 September and will kick-off the new 1·Lectures season with his lecture in the Zuiderkerk. Kuma talks about his work in cities all over the world, including London, Tokyo and Dundee. After his 1·Lectures, Kuma goes to Scotland for the opening of V&A Dundee, the first spot of the V&A Museum outside London and designed by the Japanese and his team.
About Kengo Kuma
Kengo Kuma (1954), founded Kengo Kuma & Associates in 1990. In 2009 he was appointed professor at the Graduate School of Architecture at the University of Tokyo.Kuma’s most important works include Noh Stage in the Forest, Toyoma Center for Performance Arts (awarded the 1997 annual prize of the Architectural Institute of Japan) and Bato-machi Hiroshige Museum (awarded the Murano Prize). Recent works include the Nezu Museum (2009, Tokyo), the Yusuhara Marche and the Wooden Bridge Museum (2010), the Asakusa Cultural and Tourism Centre (2012) and the Nagaoka City Hall Aore. (2012) and Kabukiza (2013).
Outside Japan, the Besançon Music Center, the FRAC Marseilles Aix-en-Provence Conservatoire and the Folk Art Museum of the Chinese Academy of Arts have recently been completed. Kuma is also an avid writer. His books have been translated into English, Chinese and Korean, giving him a wide readership from all over the world.
This lecture is the result of collaboration between the Amsterdam Architecture Centre, the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture and the Municipality of Amsterdam.

Since 2014, the Amsterdam Architecture Centre has been organising the 1·Lectures in collaboration with the Academy of Architecture. This series of architectural lectures provides a platform for speakers from home and abroad to talk about a variety of topics from the international world of architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture.
