AirBnB & Disneyfication – Stephen Hodes

Wednesday 09 May 2018, 19:30 - 21:00 hrs.
Academy of Architecture
Waterlooplein 211-213
1011 PG Amsterdam

After finishing his degree in urban development, Stephen Hodes pursued a successful career in tourism. He worked as a tourism expert for the Dutch tourism board and KPMG management consulting before co-founding consultancy firm LAgroup. In recent years, Hodes has turned into an activist who mobilized people to think about new ways to prevent Amsterdam from turning into the next Venice, a city that only serves the purposes of mass tourism. He will present best and worse examples from around the world in the way cities deal with the growth of international tourism.

The C4C6 lectures are open to 2nd and 3rd year students at the Academy of Architecture. For them, all lectures are required.

All the lectures take place in the Hoge Zaal at the Academy of Architecture, except for the lectures on 16.05 and 23.05. These will take place at Pakhuis de Zwijger and have free access to everyone who is interested.

The C4C6 lecture series aims to give master students at the Academy of Architecture a clear understanding of the current urban issues in Amsterdam. Secondly, the international perspective shows students that urban solutions generated in one part of the world can be an inspiration for cities in other countries.
