Onzichtbare jongeren

This project is mainly about interaction between the homeless young people. The age of these young people is between 17 and 30 years old. They do not have an address and do not study. Since they do not have a residential address, they are not allowed to work and have no income. They feel excluded in society, they feel excluded in society and can therefore criminalize and / or radicalize. In the long term they can also be a bad example for their children.

Not only for the young people themselves, but also from a social perspective, these problems entail negative consequences. For example, municipalities have higher costs and increasing care that they have to offer these young people. To overcome these problems, these young people need to be quickly cared for and helped.

The intention with the realization of a shelter is that these young people are helped quickly and effectively. These young people have isolated themselves from the environment. The group activities in the campus ensure that they get out of their isolated zone. They live together and carry out different assignments. By placing these young people in a close environment where interaction is central, they will become more involved with each other but also with society. The intention is that these young people get their identity back and, as it were, become ‘visible’ to society.

Amsterdam south-east has the highest number of invisible young people in the Netherlands. Within the boundaries of Amsterdam southeast I went looking for a location where dynamism and a diversity of people are present. The interaction of the building with the city should stimulate these young people when they return to society. The low threshold of public routing / running through and around the building is very essential. The influence of the environment, which these young people live in daily, plays an important role in their passive attitude. In order to ensure that this passivity turns into an active attitude, it is important that there is an environment for these young people where they can learn or experience it.
