Research group Material & Design
Lector Jan Peter Wingender led the international project An Exacting Material: Tectonics in Contemporary Brick Architecture from 2010-2013. Together with his assistant architect Uri Gilad, he and students and teachers have researched the state of affairs regarding the use of the frequently used brick material.
Together with students from the Academy, Wingender has investigated the unique, individual brick language, focused on the possibilities of expression that the material offers and the underlying question of how and why architects apply it. A desired research result is a file recording and diagnosis of the application of brick. According to Wingender, the Academy - with its competitor education for designers by designers - is the right place to gain knowledge about the material and its application, to make meanings clear, to talk, to debate and to reflect in order to further the tradition. In addition, mutual influencing of theory, practice and education is possible.
