Janna Bystrykh appointed Head of Architecture

Janna Bystrykh (1980) has been appointed by the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture as head of the Master in Architecture program. She will succeed Jan Richard Kikkert on January 1, 2022, who will hand over the position after 5,5 years. The Academy of Architecture is delighted with the arrival of Janna Bystrykh.

Janna Bystrykh has professional experience and experience in architectural education. She was born in Russia and grew up in the Netherlands. She studied at TU Delft and the London School of Economics and took part in the exchange programmes with IIT in Chicago and ETSAB in Barcelona. Since 2008 she has been working in the Netherlands, at KCAP and OMA*AMO, where she was an associate until 2018. In 2019 she founded the agency BYSTRYKH, in 2022 her publication Play! will be published by nai010 publishers and the documentary Great Pla(i)ns will be released.

In education, Janna has been connected to Wageningen UR, TU Delft, Berlage Institute, Harvard GSD among others, and she contributed to the launch of the Strelka Institute's education program in Moscow. She also regularly acts as visiting critic at educational institutions at home and abroad.

Janna Bystrykh about her new position:

I am looking forward to working with the students and tutors to focus on the fundamental issues ahead, seeking interdisciplinary cooperation and refining the urgencies within the profession, focusing on good design and the needs of future generations and the challenges they will have to work with."

In early 2022, Janna Bystrykh will deliver her inaugural address at the Academy of Architecture Amsterdam.
