Questioning: Can tradition stimulate innovation in wood architecture?

On Friday November 22 2019, the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture organises a symposium with the question how tradition can stimulate us within the innovation of using wood in constructions within architecture. Besides round table discussions about the educational project, there are lectures with international speakers.

10:30                      Four lectures about local wood constructions in Europe:
                -Klaus Zwerger, professor at the University in Vienna, author of the book Wood and Wood Joints
                -Mario Rinke, engineer, Swiss
                -Annemariken Hilberink, architect, Den Bosch, the Netherlands
                -August Schmidt, Architect, Trondheim, Norway

12:30                     Lunch break, at your own account

14:00                    Output of the studios and workshops:
               -Program ‘Wood: Structure and Expression’ by Carmen Rist, Vaduz
               -Workshops (Trondheim, Vaduz) by Arnstein Gilberg, Trondheim
               -Results (publication) by Machiel Spaan, Amsterdam

14:30                     Round table discussions with journalists from Norway, Liechtenstein and the Netherlands:

The symposium takes place in the building of the Academy at the Waterlooplein in Amsterdam. Due to great interest it is no longer possible to sign up for this event.
