1·Lectures with Do Janne Vermeulen and Mathew Vola

Thursday 20 September 2018, 20:00 - 22:00 hrs.
Academy of Architecture
Waterlooplein 211-213
1011 PG Amsterdam

Architect Do Janne Vermeulen (Team V Architecture) and Mathew Vola (Arup) talk about HAUT, a 73 meter tall timber hybrid apartment building to be built in Amsterdam. After completion in 2020 it will be the tallest wooden hybrid building of the Netherlands and it will be one of the tallest timber towers in the world.

High quality tender
How has this project been initiated? How can you inspire to invest in innovation? Do Janne and Mathew will tell you about the important role of the City of Amsterdam, who set out a tender with high ambitions on sustainability and environmental quality as well as developer Lingotto who commissioned this innovative design.

‘Haute couture’
HAUT’s timber construction was chosen for its sustainable nature: carbon dioxide will be stored in the cross laminated timber construction. The application of CLT-panels for large parts of its main structure and the use of energy-generating facades make HAUT a prototype of sustainable and innovative architecture. HAUT stands for ‘haute couture’, tailor-made architecture: the wooden structure makes the building design flexible, allowing first buyers to be fellow-clients who have substantial influence on the lay-out of their apartment.

The 1·Lectures will also elaborate on how Team V and Arup made a convincing integral design focusing on sustainability, quality of living as well as iconic presence and pushing the boundaries of high-rise timber structures worldwide.
