Wiel Arets is one of the most influential architects in the Netherlands and also has a major reputation abroad. His firm WAA has offices in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland and has realized projects in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa. His style is minimalist and geometric. In Amsterdam, WAA recently completed the IJ-hal in the city’s central train station.

During this evening, Wiel Arets talks about his search for influences beyond the immediate domain of architecture and how he translates these into values for the built environment.

The 1·Lectures series is organized by the Amsterdam Centre for Architecture and the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture. Renowned designers, from home and abroad, will discuss current issues in the field of architecture, urbanism and landscape design. The 1·Lectures take place at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture, Waterlooplein 213 in Amsterdam. They are held on a biweekly basis on Thursday evenings, starting at 20:00.

Advance tickets costing €5 are available online. In addition, tickets can be purchased at the door from 19:30 on the evening of the lecture itself (if available). Academy students are entitled to free admission on presentation of their student ID card. All lectures are held in English.
